I’ve just had confirmation back from the Central University Research Ethics Committee (CUREC) that the Open Data Impacts project has been approved, so – uploaded here is a copy of the approved Project Information Sheet & Informed Consent Statement (PDF) for reference (and so I’ve got an easy URL to link people to for it in future…)
Open Data in Developing Countries

The focus of my work is currently on the Exploring the Emerging Impacts of Open Data in Developing Countries (ODDC) project with the Web Foundation.

Hey, congrats! Just curious if this process is required for all research projects in the UK involving human subjects? I was used to this in the US but it doesn’t seem to be the case in the Netherlands.
Will you be at ECF this year? I’m planning to attend. Let’s catch up!
Hey Janelle
I’ll be at ECF – so definitely look forward to catching up there.
I think Universities vary – but most places here have a research ethics committee that proposals have to go past when human subjects involved.
Is there no ethical approval process in the Netherlands? Or just a different form?
Tim
There is an approval process – at my old university it was implemented in recent years, at my current university I’m not sure because I haven’t submitted any relevant projects yet.
I hadn’t heard of students having to go through it at all, though. I think it’s great – really gives you an idea of the whole process.
Looking forward to seeing you in a couple weeks!
